The Founding Session: Meet the Musicians

On May 17, 2026, Acoustic Healing holds its founding session.
This is the moment the project moves from intention to action — from a vision carried by one person into a shared act of care. Four musicians. One purpose. A belief that the people inside our hospitals deserve more than what the standard of care has always offered them.
We want to introduce the musicians who are making this possible.
Mary Superak is with us for the morning session. Mary is the kind of musician who changes the feeling of a room just by being in it. In a healing environment, that is an extraordinary gift.
Julia Bartles Emahiser joins us for the afternoon session on May 17. Julia brings a quality essential to this work: the understanding that what we offer is presence, not performance. She understood that from the first conversation.
Vivian Sarubbi is a founding member of Acoustic Healing — and her connection to this mission runs deeper than most people know. Before she was a therapeutic musician, Vivian was an oncology nurse. She spent years at the bedside during some of the most vulnerable moments of patients’ lives. She knew, long before joining this project, what it meant to offer comfort when medicine could only do so much.
She also played music for Becca — the daughter-in-law of our founder, David Villareal, and the inspiration behind Acoustic Healing. Vivian was there. She remembers those visits. That history is part of who she is, and part of what she brings to every room she enters.
David Villareal — founder, Registered Pharmacist, and Certified Clinical Musician — is the fourth musician. He will be in the room.
Consider the first moments after a patient is admitted. The room is unfamiliar. The sounds are clinical. Everything feels cold and uncertain. A warm blanket helps the body. But there is a part of a person — the frightened part, the lonely part, the wondering part — that a blanket cannot reach.
That is what Acoustic Healing is for. Music as the first act of care. A warm blanket for the senses.
May 17 is the beginning. We are honored to begin it with these people.
